What is Autism?

Autism is a complex, lifelong developmental condition that typically appears during early childhood and can impact a person’s social skills, communication, relationships, self-regulation, and behaviors.

Each member’s experience with autism is very different. People with autism may communicate, interact, behave, and learn in ways that are different from other people. An individual’s learning, thinking, and problem-solving abilities with this diagnosis can range from gifted to severely challenged. It is defined by a certain set of behaviors and is often referred to as a “spectrum condition” that affects people differently and to varying degrees.

While there is currently no known single cause of Autism, early diagnosis helps a person receive valuable resources that can develop a strong web of support and open up opportunities needed to live a fulfilling and happy life.

Wilhouse is here to assist in coordinating resources and to provide the high quality services that members and families need to lead productive, happy lives.
